Luang Prabang is an incredible place and somewhere I’d love to return to. Luang Prabang is in central Laos where the Nam Kha river meets the Mekong. Architecturally a mix of Lao Buddhist wats (templates) and French colonial architecture the town is listed as a world heritage site by UNESCO.
The town has a very laid-back feel. Saffron-clad monks carrying umbrellas mix with tuk tuk drivers, motorbikes with a mum, dad, child and a sack of rice on them, locals selling their wares at market stalls and western tourists young and old.
It does have the feel of a town in transition though, more on that soon.
