Lacock, Wiltshire

Lacock, Wiltshire

Ah, Lacock Abbey. Beautiful, circa 1200AD. Took a few photoes of Pip & Min in the 'cloistery' where some scenes for 'Harry Potter' are filmed. Other rooms here were also used for filming Professor McGonigal's classroom, etc. Those of you into a good bonnet drama on a Sunday evening will be thrilled to know that the village of Lacock was also the setting for 'Cranford',one of my favourite bonnet dramas. I think I found Dame Judy Dench's characters' house, you know, where she stands broo...

Bath

Bath

Wow. 2000 year old Roman Baths and relics. One of the main things I was awed with here was the enormousnous of the terrace houses and the use of the same stone on practically all of the buildings in Bath. The Abbey was spectacular and huge. Visited Shakespeare's birthplace and Anne Hathaway's cottage - both amazing with insightful talks by the National Trust's volunteers. Minnie was excited by the barges on the canal which inspired Babs to organise a barge ride for us on Sunday. ...

Avebury and Stonehenge

Avebury and Stonehenge

Hit the ground running on our first day in the UK. We arrived around 5.30am and were picked up from the airport by Uncle Alan. After driving us back to Wroughton and feeding us he then drove us off to see some of the sites of Wiltshire. Avebury Ancient stone circle much larger than it's more famous cousin plus a great old church. Stonehenge We all know what it looks like and it is incredible. Although I knew it was going to be busy I was still surprised at how many people were there. Ambienc...
